What a day...

It is really beautiful outside today and it was nice to be out and about for a little bit and get to enjoy the sunshine.

I haven't been sleeping well or enough lately and it is starting to wear on me. Anyone have tips for getting good rest? (No boose or pills please :)

"Getting Things Done"

There is a school of thought on productivity headed by super-duper prepare-o-matic David Allen and he has written a few books on the subject. I really like his approach which basically says that, it really doesn't matter how much you have to do, if you have a system for capturing and processing your projects and tasks your stress will be relieved.

I am always looking for tips on being able to get more done with the paltry sum of hours that passes for a workday. Here are 2 tips I recently passed on to a family member:

1. Keep a single small notebook with you at all times. If you think of something you need to do or need to remember write it down immediately. The less things you keep in mental RAM, the less you will feel like you are drowning.

2. If you are feeling overwhelmed, sit down and set a timer for 10 mintues. For these 10 minutes, write continuously ALL of the things (no matter how obscure) on your mind that seem to be plaguing you. This is called a "mind sweep". If you are still writing when the timer goes off, reset it and keep on going. When you are done you should have a pretty thorough to-do list.

I frequently read 43folders.com the site has tons of productivity/technology info. If anyone else has tips or resources, please share.

I am not so much into the hearts and flowers of it all, but it is nice to take a moment to say..."I love you" provided that you say it all the other days of the year too.

So here's to my sweety of the past 11 years, thanks for the hugs!

Faces in the Tile

This is something I noticed long ago. The tiles in our bathroom at the office have a very rough texture and I see faces in them. This happens to me often, I make a face out of some random texture. But these faces seemed pretty prominent and I wondered if I was crazy to see them everytime I venture to the loo. So here they are for you viewing enjoyment. Look at the posts below.

(Incidentally, if you don't see what I see click on the photos and go view the notes I have placed over them in my Flickr.)

In Full Force

I just drove to south county and back and saw four people being pulled over by cops. Four! Then at lunch I saw 3 more cops out and about. So watch your speed, be safe out there.

Sweet, Sweet Gelato!

We haven't even gone to Italy yet and I am already smitten by gelato. I have had it a few times and have always enjoyed it, but when we saw a new shop opening downtown, I knew it would be my downfall.

We stopped by today (our second trip), met the owner (a man who lived in Italy for 25 years and offered to plan our itinerary with us), and had a fabluous after lunch treat. We had what I think is called an "Affogato" gelato with 2 shots of espresso poured over it. It was fabulous!

The shop is called Frati, here in Fullerton.

Election Name-Dropping

I had a message on the answering machine last night from Scarlett Johannsen, "Please join me in voting for Barrack Obama" she said, "blah, blah, blah". I replied back to the machine, "Huh...thanks for calling. I liked The Island". Then I hit delete. Maybe this is effective campaigning for frat houses?

The Bucket List and Juno

We saw 2 movies over the weekend. They were both pretty good, worth seeing.

They were both thought provoking and funny. Sometimes if we don't go to the movies for a while, I forget how much fun it is. And when the movie is enjoyable it's even better.
