New Years 2008

Like many have already said, I am ready to see 2007 go. I like the way the New Year is a time to start fresh. It hasn't been a great year for my family and my friends from cancer to death to surgeries to hospital stays and many other unexpected hardships, it seems like this year had more than a year's worth of heartache for us. It is time to mark the close of this year and face whatever comes next. So raise a glass of bubbly and thank God we made it though another year. Cheers!

Waitress, Catch and Release

I have been looking forward to seeing the movie Waitress for quite a while now. It was a bit different than I was expecting but I really did enjoy it. Independents have a different kind of narrative. They seem to experiment with the storytelling a bit more. I like seeing the different perspective.

We also recently saw Catch and Release. I had a bit of trouble getting oriented during the first 1/3 of the film. But about half way through I was starting to relate to it. I had the distinct impression that this film was written and directed by a woman (which was correct).

Both were good little films, probably in the chick-flick category, but I recommend them anyhow. They do represent real females and real perspectives. I very much enjoy authentic characters.

Crunching Numbers

For once we got the tax guy looking at our stuff before the end of the year. Even though we are taking control of the situation much earlier this year, I still have crazy anxiety when it comes to this stuff. After we got off the phone (hearing mostly good news) I still could feel my chest getting all tight and my tummy getting a bit grumbly. I am definately ready for a little R & R for the holidays. Anyone with me?

Christmas Desktop 2007

So here is the Christmas Desktop I designed for this year. Photo credit goes out to our dear friend Emily Smith (better known as Em-Dash to us). So have at it folks, albeit a little late in the season.

Closing In

Well, I came to the realization today that I am going to really have to hustle with the Christmas shopping this year. We have bought nothing at this point. Sheesh. It always seems to sneak up on me. Time to start making lists.

Med Speak

I love medical shows, especially E.R. because they don't dumb anything down. They chatter on in medical jargon and most people have no idea what they are saying. I love shows that don't apologize for keepin' it real. So just in case you were wondering here are some of the terms I have picked up, looked up or figured out.

LOC = Loss of consciousness
LOL = Little old lady
GSW = gun shot wound
MVA = motor vehicle accident
CBC = complete blood count
GOMER = get out of my ER (someone who comes back from the brink of death more than once)
tension pnuemo = (short for tension pnuemothorax)collapsed lung
PID = pelvic inflammatory disease
ex-lap = exploratory laparotomy
appy = appendectomy
diaphoretic = sweaty
SVT = supraventricular tachycardia
DVT = deep vein thrombosis
PE = pulmonary embollism
cyanotic = blue (from lack of oxygen)
PTSD = post traumatic stress disorder
MI = myocardial infarction (heart attack)

Who says TV isn't educational?

Cleaning

It seems as though I have cleaned some everyday since Friday and things just keep getting messy. I don't really see it happening except for in the kitchen and maybe it won't take that long to clean up, but really?? Should I have to clean everyday? Are there little creatures throwing stuff around and messing up after me? Grr.

Christmas Movies

In honor of our Christmas tree, which we just put up this evening to kick off the holiday season, I thought I should post my Christmas movie list. I love Christmas movies, the funny thing was when I was growing up we all had different ideas of what Christmas movies were. For example, my dad would say: A Christmas Carol (the old, b & w version) and It's a Wonderful Life. My mom would say: Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. I would say: Gremlins and Home Alone. We would, of course, watch them all and later were able to throw in a few others that we all agreed on like: Sleepless in Seattle and While You Were Sleeping.

Any one else have Christmas movies?
